Big Sky to delay start of fall competition

03 Dec 2021 | 07:07 | Golf

The Big Sky Conference Presidents Council has approved delaying the first date of competition for the league’s Olympic sports during the fall season.

The first allowed date of competition for soccer, volleyball and cross country, as well as for the non-championship seasons of tennis and softball, will be Friday, Sept. 18.

Men’s and women’s golf will be able to compete beginning on Monday, Sept. 14.

The competition start date for football will be assessed at a later date.

The decision by the Presidents Council was made after receiving feedback from the league’s Directors of Athletics, Senior Woman Administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives, its Student-Athlete Advisory and Health and Safety committees, and its athletic trainers.

The new competition start date will allow member institutions to stagger the return of their teams to campus while providing additional time to fine-tune their return-to-play protocols and maintaining competitive opportunities for student-athletes.

Big Sky institutions may continue with permissible athletics activities at their discretion while abiding by NCAA legislation, campus policies and local and state regulations.
